MINHDU Warns Bamenda Residents After Heavy Rainfall and Flooding

By Wirngo Peter Tardzenyuy  The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has called for increased vigilance in Bamenda following exceptional rainfall that caused flooding in several parts of the city. In a press release dated August 17, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development expressed solidarity with families and residents affected by the flooding, which disrupted daily activities and caused damage to property and infrastructure. The Ministry says the government remains committed to improving drainage systems and strengthening the city’s resilience to flooding and other climate-related risks. It also pointed to the C2D Programme currently being implemented in Bamenda, which includes a major sanitation component as part of the urban infrastructure being developed. North West Health Officials Launch Week of Activities for World Breastfeeding Week

By Wirngo Peter Tardzenyuy  The North West Regional Delegation of Public Health on Tuesday opened a week-long campaign to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2026, with officials urging mothers to start breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and to continue for up to two years. The campaign is being run with support from the Ministry of Public Health and UNICEF. It kicked off with a press briefing at the Delegation’s conference hall in Bamenda, where health officials met media representatives to lay out the week’s program of radio programs, TV shows and community sensitization. Nkwen Fondom Honours Dreamland CEO Edison Fru Ndi With "Tantoh" Title

By Wirngo Peter Tardzenyuy  It was a day of double celebration in Bamenda III on Friday as businessman Edison Fru Ndi received one of Nkwen’s highest traditional titles and at the same time handed over the new Mutan Market to the North West Regional Assembly. Dressed in traditional regalia, Mr. Fru Ndi knelt before His Royal Highness Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen at the Industrial Zone as the monarch placed the royal red feather on him. The title conferred was "Tantoh", which means Assistant to the Fondom. According to the Fon, the decision was reached after consultations with the Kwifon and the Fon of Mankon. He told the gathering that the honour was in recognition of Mr. Fru Ndi’s work in community development, youth empowerment and infrastructure across the North West Region. The one-day event was organized by Bright Light Projects, BLP, in partnership with the Bamenda I Women’s Empowerment and Family Center, WEFC. It was held under the theme "Young Women Leading Peace, Recovery and Community Resilience" and drew participants from across civil society, government, traditional and religious institutions. The consultation brought together young women survivors, youth leaders, council officials, UN Women agencies, educators, media practitioners and community stakeholders to share experiences and develop practical recommendations for peace in the region.
