Nkwen Fondom Honours Dreamland CEO Edison Fru Ndi With "Tantoh" Title

It was a day of double celebration in Bamenda III on Friday as businessman Edison Fru Ndi received one of Nkwen’s highest traditional titles and at the same time handed over the new Mutan Market to the North West Regional Assembly.

Dressed in traditional regalia, Mr. Fru Ndi knelt before His Royal Highness Fon Azehfor III of Nkwen at the Industrial Zone as the monarch placed the royal red feather on him. The title conferred was "Tantoh", which means Assistant to the Fondom.

According to the Fon, the decision was reached after consultations with the Kwifon and the Fon of Mankon. He told the gathering that the honour was in recognition of Mr. Fru Ndi’s work in community development, youth empowerment and infrastructure across the North West Region. The Fon of Babungo was also present and offered blessings.

The ceremony took place during the provisional reception of the Mutan Market, a 410 million FCFA project built by Dreamland Connect. The Executive President of the North West Regional Assembly, Prof. Fru Angwafo*, received the facility on behalf of the Assembly. Officials say the market is expected to ease congestion in Bamenda and serve as the starting point for a bigger trade and logistics hub for the region.

Speaking on why the title was awarded, Fon Azehfor III pointed to Mr. Fru Ndi’s businesses, Dreamland Snack and Dreamland Restaurant, which have employed many young people in Bamenda. He also noted that local youths were engaged during the construction of the Mutan Market and that the CEO has continued to support aspiring entrepreneurs in the Fondom. 

"I build, I employ, and I give back. That is why the Fondom is recognizing him today," the Fon said.

An emotional Mr. Fru Ndi thanked the Nkwen Palace for the honour. As North West Regional Delegate of the Chamber of Commerce, he told the crowd that his drive has always been to see lives changed through opportunities. 

"I am deeply humbled by this prestigious title from the Nkwen Fondom," he said. "Giving back and empowering my community is a way of life for me. I pledge to continue doing my part."

Community members, traders and traditional dancers turned out in numbers to witness both the installation and the market handover, describing it as a proud moment for Nkwen and for Bamenda.
