Four Killed in Night Attack on Drinking Spot in Nkor, Noni Subdivision

At least four people, including two military officers and two civilians, were killed on Tuesday evening June 10, 2026 following an armed attack on a popular drinking spot in Nkor Market, Noni Subdivision of Bui Division in the North-West Region.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. when unidentified gunmen, believed by local sources to be separatist fighters, opened fire on individuals gathered at the busy market-side drinking joint.

Witnesses say the location was crowded at the time of the attack, with residents socializing and taking refreshments when gunshots suddenly rang out, causing panic and confusion among those present.

Among the civilians killed was a woman identified as Dimla Carine, who local sources say was involved in ongoing census data collection activities in the subdivision. Her death has sparked concern among residents, particularly as census operations continue in parts of the region despite persistent security challenges.

The two military personnel who lost their lives were reportedly part of the security presence deployed in the area. Details regarding their identities had not been officially released at the time of publication.

The attack once again highlights the fragile security situation in parts of Bui Division and the wider North-West Region, where sporadic violence continues to affect civilian life despite efforts by authorities to restore normalcy.

Residents of Nkor have expressed fear and uncertainty following the incident, with many calling for strengthened security measures to protect both civilians and public workers carrying out essential state assignments.

As of Wednesday morning, administrative and security authorities had not yet issued an official statement on the attack. Investigations are expected to be launched to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.

The latest killings add to growing concerns over the safety of civilians, security personnel, and government field workers operating in conflict-affected communities across the North West Region.
