There was a warm, almost electric atmosphere in Bamenda on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered at the Conference Hall of the North West Regional Delegation of Arts and Culture in Upstation. The occasion was more than just a celebration it was the marking of a journey defined by resilience, sacrifice, and quiet determination.

At the center of it all stood Njang Ndenge Myriam, a woman whose years of relentless effort have now culminated in the prestigious title of Doctor of Philosophy.

Speaking during the ceremony, Myriam struggled to hide her emotion. Her words carried the weight of long nights and unwavering focus. She described the moment as one of “joy, fulfillment, and pride,” reflecting on the many years spent “burning the midnight candle.” For her, the doctorate is not just a personal milestone, but a tool for impact.

Her research, which examines how training, innovation, and networking influence the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cameroon’s North West Region, is deeply rooted in the realities of the local economy. With a strong scientific foundation, she believes her findings can help shape policies that support and strengthen businesses in the region an area that continues to navigate economic and social challenges.

Beyond the academic achievement, Myriam’s message was clear: knowledge should serve society. She expressed hope that her work would inform government action and inspire others to pursue research that addresses real-world problems.

The pride in the room was perhaps most visible in the face of her parent, Wilfred Wambeng Ndong, a former Regional Delegate of the Ministry of Basic Education. His voice carried both emotion and conviction as he spoke about the significance of the day.

“This is something very close to my heart,” he said. “It is a rare opportunity, and I am proud of what my daughter has achieved.”

He did not stop there. In a message that resonated with many in attendance, he called on families and communities to invest in the education of their children especially girls.

“Give your daughters a chance. Give everyone a chance,” he urged. “So that tomorrow, you too can proudly say it was worthwhile.”

The celebration was filled with laughter, embraces, and moments of reflection. It was not just about one woman’s success, but about what that success represents a reminder that even in the face of challenges, perseverance can lead to remarkable outcomes.

As the event drew to a close, one thing was clear: Njang Ndenge Myriam’s achievement is not just a personal victory. It is a story of hope, a call to action, and a shining example for a generation coming behind her.
