The Bamenda III Council has held its Administrative Account Session this Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Council Hall, bringing together key administrative authorities, councillors, and security officials to assess the execution of the 2025 budget and outline priorities for the year ahead.
Chaired in the presence of the Divisional Officer for Bamenda III Subdivision, Sakah Ayuni Austin, the Mayor of Bamenda III Council, Fongu Cletus Tanwe, alongside representatives of regional services, including labour and social security, as well as defence and security forces.
Deliberations during the session focused on the examination and adoption of the 2025 administrative account, which stood at over 905 million CFA francs. According to Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe, the council recorded significant progress, with close to 90 percent of planned projects effectively executed, many reaching full completion.
He highlighted key achievements including the extension of electricity to underserved neighbourhoods, improved access to potable water, support to sports initiatives, and assistance to persons living with disabilities. “We are satisfied with the level of execution. Most of our projects were realized at 100 percent, and this is a testament to our commitment to development,” the mayor stated.
Looking ahead, the council's adopted budget for the 2026 financial year is projected at over 2.3 billion CFA francs. Priority areas include the provision of safe drinking water through the construction of 19 boreholes across various communities, the building of bridges, and the rehabilitation of key road networks. Among the major road projects announced are the taring of the st Paul junction, and the completion of works linking Foncha Junction to GTTC.
Cultural and social development also feature prominently in the council’s agenda, with plans underway to host a major cultural festival before the end of the year, alongside continued support for local sports associations.
Beyond development issues, authorities used the platform to address the forthcoming visit of the Pope to Bamenda, describing it as a historic moment for the city and the country at large. Mayor Fongu called on residents of Bamenda III to turn out massively and line the streets from Big Mankon through Meta Quarter to Hospital Roundabout to give the Holy Father a warm reception, while strictly respecting security guidelines.
The Divisional Officer, Sakah Ayuni Austin, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the significance of hosting a foreign Head of State, who is also the leader of the Catholic Church. He noted that local authorities are fully involved in preparations and urged the population to demonstrate discipline and patriotism during the visit.
In a solemn moment, the mayor extended condolences to families affected by recent flooding in parts of the municipality, particularly in the Mile 2 Nkwen Bridge, attributed to ongoing construction works. He assured that the council would engage with affected families and work closely with relevant authorities to prevent a recurrence.
The session also featured statutory procedures including verification of quorum, adoption of previous minutes, presentation of committee reports, and deliberations on resolutions guiding the council’s operations.
With the adoption of the administrative account and clear development priorities set, the Bamenda III Council signals a renewed commitment to infrastructure expansion, social welfare, and inclusive growth for its population.
