In a powerful display of commitment to environmental protection, Bright Light Projects organized a community led action to tackle plastic pollution in celebration of the World Environment Day 2025 event at the Alliance Francaise in Bamenda, themed "Beating Plastic Pollution." The initiative brought together stakeholders, youths, and environmental enthusiasts to raise awareness and find solutions to the pressing issue of plastic pollution in Bamenda and the North West Region.

Shing Praise Waindia, Program Manager for Bright Light Projects, emphasized the importance of collaboration in combating plastic pollution. "We believe that combating plastic pollution is not a one-man thing," he said. "We need to collaborate and work together to find solutions." Bright Light Projects has been working with various organizations, including The Greens, ASDEPO, and Better Breed, to promote plastic recycling and reduce plastic waste.

The event featured practical workshops on upcycling and recycling plastics, including producing drying lines, nursery pots, and pavement bricks. Dzelamonyuy Christian Simoben, Team Leader of Eco Friendly Generation, demonstrated how to make drying lines from plastic bottles, while Mbuh Hope Asobo, a University of Bamenda student, showcased how to create pavement bricks from recycled plastic. These initiatives empower youths with skills and knowledge to take the lead in fighting plastic pollution.

Bright Light Projects has also launched a reforestation project, "Reforesting Hope," aimed at restoring degraded landscapes and promoting environmental conservation. The project targets 100 hectares of degraded land in Bamenda and Makeni, Sierra Leone, and involves community conservation, tree nurseries, and large-scale reforestation planting campaigns.

The organization has partnered with local NGOs, government agencies, and community groups to ensure the success of its environmental initiatives. The World Environment Day event was supported by the Regional Delegation of Environment, the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, and other partners.

Through its initiatives, Bright Light Projects together with her collaborators is making a significant contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development in the region with youths taking the lead. As Shing Praise Waindia noted, "Youths need to take active roles in beating plastic pollution," Shing Praise emphasized. "They are the leaders of today and tomorrow."

The organization's efforts serve as a model for community-led environmental initiatives and demonstrate the power of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.
