THE CENTRE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA (CHRDA) TRAINED 100 CIVIL SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES ON MONITORING, DOCUMENTING AND REPORTING HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN CAMEROON.
A one day workshop at the Regional Head office of CHRDA in Bamenda on 29th February 2020, saw the attendance of over 100 civil society representatives all over the North West Regions of Cameroon.
The North West Region being one of the regions of Cameroon plague with crisis that records human rights violations at all level prompted a need for such training. The trainees were drilled on Monitoring, documenting and reporting human rights violations in the country. Coming at a time of numerous human rights violations noticed in most parts of the country especially in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
According to the Region Coordinator Mr Bongwong Justin Berinyuy, "there is no denying the fact that today without the Civil Society Organizations(CSOs), the world would have been ridden with much more corruption, violence and human rights abuses, burdened with greater social injustice and equiped with less sensitivity to current socio- political crisis caused mostly by corruption. Inline with the above stated facts, the importance of the CSOs especially in our society today cannot be over emphacized.
Thus, the civil society actors need to be trained in the midst of rising humanitarian and political crisis ".
“If human rights defenders must live up to their task of ensuring the respect of fundamental rights in Cameroon then there is no better time to act than now. We have seen and witnessed too many violations to human rights in Cameroon and we cannot afford to be indifferent in the face of pain and suffering. We have the crucial responsibility of standing up and speaking out against impunity, and this explains the need for capacity building programs like this one”
